Recognizing the need to impart legal
awareness to women and safeguard their rights, Punjab State Commission for
Women in association with National Commission for Women, New Delhi organized
two day Legal Awareness Programme at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the
dynamic guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. The prominent guests and speakers Dr. Sachin
Gupta, ADC, Mrs. Kiran Dhami, Member Punjab Commission for Women, Mr. Ashok Kumar
ACP, Advocate Abha Nagar, Advocate Angelina Brar, Mr. Maneet Duggal, Additional
District Attorney, Mrs. Ritu Grover, Deputy District Attorney Phillaur, Ms.
Rupam, Mr. Nirmal Singh, Mrs. Parveen Kumari and Ms. Gurpreet Kaur were
accorded green welcome by Principal Dr. Sareen, Mrs. Deepshikha, Mrs. Nita
Malik , Mrs. Alka Sharma and Dr. Jiwan Devi.
The
workshop began with the lighting of lamp and recital of DAV Anthem. Principal Dr. Sareen welcomed the
distinguished guests to the institution and emphasized the need for being aware
of rights. Women are either unaware or
don’t report the crime which leads to the vicious circle of injustices being
done.
Dr.
Sachin Gupta also advocated the need to spread awareness as there is an
increased number of victims and justice is a long way.
Mrs.
Kiran Dhami unfolded that the Commission helps aggrieved women against all
types of domestic violence, rape, marital issues. Women are protected against all such
incidents by law. Speaking further on
similar notes Ms. Abha Nagar stressed upon the rights, duties and
responsibilities of every citizen.
On
the second day Sh. Maneet Duggal highlighted the problems faced by women and
told that there is a law for every violence.
Mrs. Ritu Grover presented thought provoking views on the gaps in the
implementation of laws with special reference to domestic violence and sexual
harassment. Ms. Rupam also explained to
the students about the legal process.
The students interacted with the speakers and cleared their doubts. The
stage was hosted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia.
