HMV conducted a Socio-Economic Statistical Survey in Village Kahlwan




Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised a socio-economic empirical survey in village Kahlwan under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and with the collaboration of Jalandhar District Administration.
A team of the college comprising of eight members namely Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Advisor, Mrs. Jyotika Minhas, Incharge, Dr. Baljinder Singh, Co-Incharge & five students Harshita, Tanisha, Shivani, Preet & Aman of BSc. (Eco.) – Sem VI conducted the field visit & collected data related to socio-economic variables. The team visited seventy households of the village and filled questionnaire covering various aspects like economic status of farmers, crops grown, land reforms, tenancy cultivation, use of high yielding varieties of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, status of landless cultivators, literacy, indebtedness, status of women, cleanliness, infrastructural development and drug addiction. The role of Panchayat authorities in solving the problems of people of the village was also examined. The survey team enquired about the participation of people in all round development of the village. People belonging to different occupations like farmers, artisans, hired labour, women & youth discussed their problems with the survey team. The problem of unemployment was found to be rampant in the village due to which majority of the youth had migrated to foreign countries. The farmers also shared that the stray animals were destroying their crops leading to huge losses. The problem of declining water level & sewerage was also found to be creating economic & social crisis. The farmers also highlighted the fact that the cost of production of crops highly exceeded the revenue earned & hence the small farmers were caught in the vicious circle of debt trap.
During the entire course of survey, the district authorities Sh. Rahul Sindhu SDM –II Jalandhar, Sh. Varjit Walia, IAS, Smt. Sukhbir Kaur, BDO, Sh. Pargat Singh, Patwari, Sh. Bhupinder Singh, Sarpanch, Sh. Sukhwinder Singh, Panchayat Secretary, Sh. Ravinder Goel, APO, provided their valuable cooperation in making the survey a success. HMV survey team assured the villagers that the socio-economic report will be sent to the district administration for resolving the urgent issues faced by the village. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen congratulated & appreciated the endeavor of the teachers & students in contributing towards the development of the village community & encouraged them to continue their efforts in serving the society.
