PG Department of English and Readers Club of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya held an informal discussion session with renowned writer Mr. Rahul Saini under the dynamic lead of Principal Prof. Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen. The students pondered on the nuances of The Jungle Book written by Rudyard Kipling. The meet was organized virtually. Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen congratulated the department for holding interactive sessions for the students of literature. Mrs. Mamta HOD English accorded a warm welcome to Mr. Rahul Saini. The moderator of the discussion Mrs. Lovleen Kaur introduced the novel and opened the discussion by presenting her own experience of reading the stories based on Mowgli. She talked about the psychological aspects and the growth of individual.
Mr. Rahul Saini presented various insights into the text saying that it has previously been read in the light of imperialism. He offered a novel interpretation by discussing about the presentation of identity. The students contributed fruitfully into the discussion by asking about the maternal instincts of mother wolf, the language distinctions between animals and humans and the use of archetype characters in the stories.
Mr. Rahul Saini also encouraged the students to read more and more and start thinking about the meanings of the texts. The discussion was attended by Mrs. Kranti Wadhwa, Mrs. Ritu Bajaj, Mr. Neeraj, Mr. Parminder Singh along with the students from the Humanities stream.
