World Ozone Day celebrated at HMV

 



On the occasion of World Ozone Day, PG Dpartment of Botany of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organized an online quiz competition in which more about 200 students from all over India participated. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen in her introductory remarks said that this day is celebrated annually at HMV as an annual reminder of what can be achieved when every country on the planet works together.  Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Head of the Botany Department said that the day commemorates the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987, the most successful ecological agreement till date. The Montreal Protocol has virtually eliminated chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other ozone depleting substances (ODS), which were widely used as refrigerants/ coolants. Ms. Harpreet from Botany Department acted as quiz master. Students from various parts of the country like Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu participated enthusiastically. The main issues raised during the quiz were chlorofluorocarbons, global warming and green house gases.Dr. Shaveta Chauhan, Dr. Nitika Kapoor, Mrs. Ramandeep Kaur, Dr. Shuchi Sharma from PG Department of Botany were also present on the occasion.
