Department of Zoology and Environment
Club under DBT Star Scheme organized one day seminar on Environment and Health
to celebrate “World Environment Health Day” in the premises of Hans Raj Mahila
Maha Vidyalaya under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay
Sareen. The Resource Person of the day was Prof. Dr. Jagbir Singh, Department
of Zoology and Environmental Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Jagbir
Singh was welcomed by Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and Dr. Seema
Marwaha, Dean Academics and Head of Zoology Department with a planter. Dr.
Jagbir Singh being an environmentalist, discussed about the various environment
related issues, their major causes and the possible solutions to deal with the
issues. Dr. Singh emphasised on the role of humans in deteriorating health of
environment in 21st Century. He further stressed on protecting Mother Earth and
environmental health by reducing single use plastic and deforestation as well
as planting more trees. Furthermore, he enumerated the various steps that could
be taken by the students at household level to save the environmental health
ultimately leading to actualisation of goals of sustainable development.
Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen congratulated and encouraged the department to
further organize such lectures which provide platform to spread awareness
regarding the health of environment and ways to preserve it. Dr Seema Marwaha
presented the vote of thanks. Stage was conducted by Dr. Sakshi Verma. On this
occasion Dr. Neelam Sharma, Dr. Harpreet Singh, Dr. Jitender, Mr. Sumit, Ms.
Harpreet Kaur were also present. Dr. Sakshi Verma and Mr. Ravi Kumar, Assistant
Professors in Zoology Department were the conveners of this seminar. Lab
attendant Mr. Sachin assisted in making all arrangements for the seminar.
