Under
the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr.(Mrs) Ajay Sareen, The Freudian
Psychological Society of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya Observed World Suicide Prevention
Day. The Resource Person of the event
was Professor Dr. Davinder Singh, Department of Psychology, GNDU,
Amritsar was welcomed by Dr. Ashmeen Kaur, Head of PG Department of Psychology,
with a planter and a painting by the students of HMV as a token of
appreciation. Professor Dr. Davinder Singh discussed the key pointers and
statistics of the global scenario of suicides as well as its ideation and
indicators like verbal signs, disturbed sleep patterns, behaviour change, hopelessness,
lack of interest are indicators which should not be ignored. He emphasized that
most of the problems are temporary and are preventable. Dr. Davinder Singh
further elaborated on how our lifestyle, lack of tolerance and crisis
management plays a part in this scenario. When talking of coping skills, Dr.
Singh emphasised on happiness , calling it “a powerful agent” and importance of
communication especially, listening and appreciating as well as looking out for
others while extending a helping hand. Dr. Singh also discussed the pivotal part
development of problem solving skills plays along with receiving correct and
timely psychological intervention, medication and therapy. During this event,
Dr. Ajay Sareen talked about the role
mental health plays and its importance and the significance of observing such
days. A poster making competition was also held to create awareness .This event
was attended by students of various departments, who actively participated
throughout. The event was anchored by Ms. Mehkash, B. Voc (MHC) Sem V and Ms
Manvi BA Sem V. Ms Roohani of B.Voc (MHC) Sem III presented a wonderful self
composed Poem on Mental health and depression. On this occasion, faculty
members Ms. Vanshika, Ms. Harpreet and Ms. Niharika were present. Ms Vanshika
gave the vote of thanks.
