Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organized DBT-STAR sponsored Guest Lecture and Workshop on
Green Chemistry Practices under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs)
Ajay Sareen. Dr. Neelam Sharma welcomed the Resource Person Dr. S.S. Chimni
Professor, Chemistry Department, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar
and introduced the motive of the
event that green chemistry is an umbrella approach to save human health and
environment by designing new molecules and processes. Dr. Swapandeep Singh
Chimni delivered a lecture on “Green Chemistry Practices”. He shed the light on
importance of green chemistry practices for the sustainable development and
also discussed various approaches to adjudge the process as green or
sustainable. He also made the students aware about the hazards caused by toxic
waste and the other materials to the environment and mankind. Students
inquisitively and patiently listened to the lecture and interacted with Dr.
Chimni. He also motivated and guided the students for higher studies and
research as a career. 60 students participated in the Workshop in Chemistry
laboratories and carried out the synthesis of chalcones using green methods.
Faculty membersMrs. Deepshikha, Dr. Vandna Thakur, Ms. Tanisha Ahuja were
present on the occasion. Principal Prof. Dr.( Mrs.) Ajay Sareen appreciated the
efforts of the department.
