Zoology Department celebrated National Nutrition Week from 1st to 7th Sept.
This week-long celebration aimed to raise awareness about the significance of
nutrition, promote healthy eating habits, and enhance understanding of balanced
diets and their critical role in maintaining overall health. Under the expert
guidance of Principal, Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen the event was a resounding
success, with active and enthusiastic participation from students and faculty
members. The week began with a PowerPoint presentation competition where
participants showcased their knowledge and creativity on topics related to
nutrition. Topics included “Balanced Diet for a Healthy Lifestyle,” “Importance
of Micronutrients,” “Sustainable Eating” and “Nutrition and Mental Health”. A Seminar on "The Importance of a
Balanced Diet" was conducted on the following day by Dr. Ranjana, a renowned nutritionist and health expert working as
Chief Dietician in Golden Hospital Jalandhar and Shangara Singh Hospital,
Jalandhar. She provided an in-depth presentation on the essential components of
a balanced diet, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and
minerals. The dietician also stressed the importance of portion control, the
inclusion of a variety of food groups, and the benefits of a plant-based diet.
Participants were introduced to the concept of mindful eating and the
importance of staying hydrated, as well as avoiding processed foods and added
sugars. The event was well-received, with attendees gaining valuable insights
on how to incorporate balanced nutrition into their daily lives. A quiz was also conducted, testing
students’ knowledge of nutrition, diet, and wellness. The quiz was highly
competitive and encouraged participants to expand their understanding of
nutrition in an interactive manner. In line with the theme of promoting healthy,
traditional, and sustainable food options, a stall dedicated to showcasing
various millet-based dishes was set up. Students and faculty members were
encouraged to taste and explore recipes using millets such as Ragi, Jowar, and
Bajra. To promote creativity and the importance of fresh, wholesome
ingredients, a Salad Plating and Recipe
Writing competition was held. Participants brought colourful and
nutrient-rich salads, beautifully plated, and accompanied them with unique and
nutritious recipes. The focus was on including seasonal vegetables, legumes,
and grains, promoting the use of fresh and locally sourced ingredients. As part
of the celebrations, faculty members actively participated by preparing healthy
and nutritious dishes dedicating the day to this year’s theme “Nutritious diet
for everyone”, for creating awareness among faculty members as well and
highlighting the importance of including nutritious meals in daily routines. To
emphasize the role of physical activity in maintaining good health, a Fitness
Workshop was organized. Led by fitness trainers, the session included
exercises and tips on staying active, emphasizing the need for a balance
between diet and physical fitness. The Judges for the various events were Mrs.
Deepshikha, Dr. Saloni Sharma, Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Mrs. Purnima, Dr. Ramandeep
