PG Department of
Zoology and Environment Club, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar,
celebrated Wildlife Week to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and
environmental protection. The
event was organized under the expert guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.)
Mrs. Ajay Sareen, and witnessed active participation from students
across various departments. This year’s theme, “Human–Wildlife
Coexistence,” emphasized the need for harmonious living between humans
and animals. To mark the occasion, a series of engaging competitions including Photography, PowerPoint Presentation,
and Slogan Writing
competitions were organized to encourage creativity and inspire students to
contribute to wildlife conservation. Students showcased thought-provoking
slogans and presentations highlighting the vital role of wildlife in
maintaining ecological balance. Besides, a virtual trip to Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad
was also organized for students where students explored the fascinating
diversity of mammals, reptiles, and birds. The activity aimed to nurture
compassion and appreciation for the animal kingdom. Addressing the
participants, Madam Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Sareen emphasized that such events provide
students with valuable opportunities to reflect on the significance of
conservation while enhancing their artistic and creative skills. Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean
Academics and Head of PG Department of Zoology, highlighted the purpose of
observing Wildlife Week and emphasized the urgent need to protect the world’s
most endangered plants and animals. She also spoke about India’s key wildlife
conservation initiatives launched during Wildlife Week 2025,
including Project Dolphin Phase II, Project Sloth Bear, Project Gharial,
and the Tigers Outside Reserves Initiative, all aimed at
promoting species protection and encouraging human–wildlife
coexistence. Dr. Anjana Bhatia, IQAC coordinator and Head of PG Department of Botany, highlighted
various Government of India initiatives, including the Dolphin
and Gharial Projects, and discussed their relevance and
implementation in Punjab. The competitions were judged by Dr. Simi (Assistant Professor, PG Department of
Physics), Ms. Harpreet Kaur (Assistant Professor, PG
Department of Botany), and Mr. Ravi Kumar (Assistant
Professor, PG Department of Zoology). Winners were awarded prizes, and all
participants received e-certificates. Dr. Sakshi Verma, incharge and Mr. Ravi
Kumar, co-incharge Environment Club, were the conveners of the event. Mr.
Sachin Kumar assisted in making all arrangements for the event.
