The 88th Annual Convocation
for the session 2017-18 was held in Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya on 12th
August, 2019. The chief guest of the day
was Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Guru
Nanak Dev
University , Amritsar .
Dr. Ramesh K. Arya, Vice President, DAVCMC and Dr. Satish Kumar Sharma,
Director Colleges, DAVCMC New Delhi were the worthy Guests of Honour. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen gave a
warm green welcome to the revered Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour. Other dignitaries who graced the auspicious
occasion were Sh. Arvind Ghai, Secretary, DAVCMC, Mr. Avtar Henry (Junior), MLA
North, Sh. S.N. Mayor, Sh. Kundan Lal Aggarwal, Sh. Ajay Goswami, Dr. Sushma
Chawla, Dr. Pawan Gupta, Principal Dr. S.K. Arora, Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar,
Principal Dr. Sanjeev Sood, Sh. Prince Ashok Grover and Sh. Ramesh Sharma.
The convocation began with lighting of
the lamp, an invocation to the Almighty and the recital of the DAV Anthem. A total number of 816 graduates and
postgraduates received their degrees and pledged to offer their services to the
nation as responsible citizens.
Principal Dr. Sareen presented the report
highlighting the achievements of the institution in academic, co-curricular and
sports sphere for the session 2018-19 with a special focus on the prestigious
awards, brilliant university positions, green initiatives and eco-friendly
innovative practices. She congratulated
the degree holders and shared with the august audience that HMV has started 9
new courses this year and it is the only college in Punjab
to start M.Voc. (Cosmetology and Wellness).
It is a matter of pride that June 2019 edition of the reputed magazine
‘Outlook’ dedicated an editorial to the Principal of our institution and
described it as ‘Excellent
College ’.
Principal Dr. Sareen also congratulated
Dr. Sandhu for GNDU’s achievement in winning MAKA Trophy in which HMV’s sportswomen
had made a major contribution. Some
other innovative practices conducted this year are a workshop on ‘Modern Office
Practices’ to upgrade the non-teaching staff through digital knowledge, an
event ‘Prati Abhar’ recognizing the integral role of the supporting staff and
launching of donation boxes, ‘Prayas’ to collect money for providing book bank
facility to the needy students.
Dr. Ramesh K. Arya thanked our benefactor
and motivator Dr. Punam Suri, Padmashree Awardee, President, DAVCMC for his
blessings and conveyed his message of the need of creating awareness that we
all are a part of a massive DAV family running no less than 900 schools, 300
colleges and many other institutions across the country. He considered the degree holders very
fortunate and exhorted them to focus on professional duties for
self-development.
Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu in his
convocation address projected a futuristic vision and emphasized the need of
being grounded and deciding everything on merit without any
discrimination. We are living in a
competitive world where honing of business etiquettes, developing communication
skills and resorting to self study through intellectual interaction can pave a
rosy path for our future. He also
emphasized on the need to subscribe to massive open online courses and emerge
stronger through physical exercise and meditation.
Dr. Satish Sharma described this day as a
turning point in the life of the degree holders. He exhorted them to plant atleast 5 trees as
a service to the society. He recognized the
contribution of Mahatma Hans Raj and Swami Dayanand in Women Education.
Sh. Arvind Ghai thanked the worthy guests
for their words of wisdom and inspired the students to spread the moral values
earned in this institution in the world around.
The students enjoyed the folk song
presented by Ms. Gursimran. Principal
Dr. Sareen honoured Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu by presenting ‘Om Dhvaja’. The convener of the function was Dr.
Kanwaldeep Kaur, Dean Academics and Co-convener was Dr. Ekta Khosla, Dean
Examinations. The stage was conducted by
Dr. Anjana Bhatia and Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda.
