The departments of Political Science and History of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidhyala celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas by hosting a webinar to commemorate the sacrifice and martyrdom of our armed forces that brought laurels to the nation during the Kargil war in 1999. The session began with Principal, Dr (Mrs) Ajay Sareen’s address and welcoming of the Chief Guest , a Lt Colonel with the Indian Army . She applauded the Indian armed forces for their outstanding role in winning at Kargil despite difficult and unfavourable conditions. She bowed to the indomitable valour and sacrifice of the Indian army on Kargil Diwas .She also congratulated the departments of History and Political Science for taking the initiative for celebrating the day with fervour and enthusiasm. Our Chief guest, topper of 10th and 12th CBSE board, with a mission to serve his country , left engineering despite getting selected in IIT. An all-rounder, he not only picked up the Southern Command Adventure Competition Trophy but had also won various Ghatak Competitions. The Chief Guest started with a simple question, what is ‘India’ , and went on to give a beautiful dimension by expanding the scope to include its land, people and culture. He symbolised his love for country, just like a son loves his mother, who bestows selfless love on him . In similar fashion, every citizen must give back to the nation, who bestows bounty on us. His slide show on Kargil war was a visual treat , that took the students back in the year 1999. He recounted all the difficulties in terms of terrain and climate, faced by the soldiers. Situation had deteriorated as the terrorists had made bunkers at the Indian mountain peaks, but armed forces lived up to their responsibilities and secured resounding victory for the country. He specially talked about the battle of Tiger Hill . He concluded the slide show by talking about the lessons India learnt from Kargil . No wonder, his slide show stirred the patriotic fervour of all those who were listening. The webinar ended with all the faculty and students saluting the armed forces.
