Department of Zoology
under DBT Star Scheme organized Seminar cum Workshop in the premises of
Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the able guidance of Principal
Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen,
providing an enriching experience for students and faculty
members. Formal welcome to the resource persons Prof. Dr. Jagbir
Singh, Department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala
and Harsimranjeet Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology,
Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib was given by Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and Dr. Seema
Marwaha, Dean Academics and Head of Zoology Department. Dr. Jagbir Singh
delivered an informative seminar on entomology, highlighting
the significance of insects in ecological balance, agriculture, and scientific
research. He elaborated on insect taxonomy, behaviour, and their role as
bioindicators, emphasizing their importance in biodiversity conservation and
pest control. His session provided students with a deeper understanding of
entomology as a crucial branch of Zoological sciences. The seminar was followed
by a hands-on training session conducted by Dr.
Harsimranjeet Singh on the collection,
stretching, and preservation of insects for further study. He
demonstrated various insect collection techniques, mounting procedures, and
preservation methods essential for research and museum studies. The
participants actively engaged in the practical session, gaining first-hand
experience in handling and studying insect specimens. The workshop concluded
with an interactive discussion, where students had the opportunity to clarify
their doubts and learn about career prospects in entomology. Madam Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen congratulated
and encouraged the Department to further organize such informative and
beneficial workshops which equip
the participants with essential skills and knowledge in fields related
to their curriculum. Dr Seema
Marwaha presented the vote of thanks. Dr. Sakshi Verma and Mr. Ravi Kumar,
Assistant Professors in Zoology Department were the conveners of this seminar.
