R.
Venkatraman Chemical Society of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organized an
industrial visit at Jagatjit Industries Hamira for students of M.Sc. Chemistry under
the guidance of Principal Prof.
Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. Jagatjit Industries is
well known in the field of liquor and milk food products markets.
Dr.
Neelam Sharma and Mrs. Deepshikha along with Attendant Mr. Madan Lal escorted
the students. Students visited the various section of distillery like
production section, quality control laboratory, storage and maturing section. Mr.
Gurinder Singh of distillery section explained the basic processes like
fermentation, batch and continuous distillation and use of various raw
materials for production. He explained automation in the working of plant and
temperature control of entire unit.
In
the quality control section, it was explained to students that Caramel is
responsible for colour of alcohol and use of tintometer and alcoholmeter was
discussed. In storage and maturing section use of Oak wood for maturing of
alcohol by storing it in big barrels of oak was explained very effectively by
Mr. Rajan Sharma. This visit was very much beneficial for M.Sc. Chemistry
Students as it explained the various processes taking place at large scale in
industry.
The
students were highly benefitted by the visit as they correlated theory with
practical. This academic industry interaction benefitted the students and
broadened their horizons for future plans.
