Bridging Industry-academia Gap ; HMV Introduces UGC Approved B.Com Financial Services


Taking cognizance of the need for building a specialized workforce for strong sustainable and balanced growth of the economy, PG Department of Commerce and Management of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya,  Jalandhar has introduced B.Com Financial Services from the current academic Session i.e. 2019-20.  College Principal Prof.  Dr.  (Mrs)  Ajay Sareen said that HMV has always been working towards bridging the industry academia gaps and giving its students wings to fly. The introduction of B.Com Financial Services is a step towards that direction. The course is aimed at imparting the skills to students and making them specialists particularly in the field of financial services.  The course will give synergetic results as besides providing ample career opportunities to students in the fields such as financial analysis,  security analysis, portfolio management, insurance advisors, accountancy,  technical analysis,  fundamental analysis, it also provides them a platform to work as independent traders by having their own online trading terminals.   Dean Academics and Head of the Department,  Dr. (Mrs). Kanwaldeep Kaur said that the financial services play a crucial role in the development of an economy.  There is no scarcity of workforce in India.  The only thing required is their proper training. Here the role of educational institutions becomes very important.  Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya has entered into MOUs with many institutes of repute such as UCO Bank,  Cooperative Bank Staff Training Institute, FLIP ( Fininitiative Learning Initiatives Pvt.  Ltd.). for imparting training to students in the field of financial services.  Besides this, it has industrial linkages with institutions such as ICICI Securities Ltd.,  UTI Mutual Funds,  Ludhiana Stock and Capital Ltd.  for imparting necessary training of trading in stock market. It is noteworthy that the college has been successfully running a course, B. Voc (Banking and Financial Services)  for many years. A number of resource persons from the industries such as Union Bank of India. UCO Bank,  Yes Bank,  CIEL (Centre for Investment Education and Learning) Mumbai etc make the students aware about the latest developments taking place in the field of banking and financial services.  Moving beyond the curriculum the students are provided ample opportunities to hone their professional skills by providing them guidance to clear exams of high cadre such as National Certification of Financial Markets (NCFM), certified by National Stock Exchange The students of the department have cleared various modules of NCFM such as Mutual Funds, Financial Markets,  Commercial Banking and are well placed in the industry. College Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen further said that the college offers special concession, total freeship and scholarships worth Rs. 1 crore every year to the meritorious and financially weak students.
