Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organized a national seminar on “Macrodynamics
in Indian Economy” under the able guidance of Madam Principal Prof (Dr.) (Mrs.)
Ajay Sareen. The resource person of the event was Dr. Satyanarayan Kothe,
Associate Professor, Mumbai School of Economics and Public Policy, University Of Mumbai . The resource person was welcomed
with planter by Dr. Kanwaldeep, Dean
Academics and Ms. Shallu Batra Head, Department Of Economics. The resource
person emphasized on the role of service sector in development of Indian
economy stating that Indian economy has been proved to be service sector led
economy. He orated that service sector has major share in gross domestic
product and decadal growth rate as compared to other sectors viz agriculture
and industrial sector and volatility of decadal growth rate of service sector
is least. Inspite of major share of service sector its growth rate in employment
is less while that of agriculture is maximum indicating disguised unemployment
in agriculture sector. However, in last two decades, labour share in service
sector is increasing; in agriculture sector it is decreasing and in
manufacturing sector it is stagnant. He also highlighted that share of service
sector in total foreign direct investment inflows is maximum 63.7% in 2018-19.
However he emphasized that foreign direct investment inflows should be maximum
in industrial sector for achieving sustainable growth.
The seminar was concluded with
interactive and knowledgeable discussion. Faculty members of Department of
Economics, Ms. Jyotika and Ms. Harmanu and about 100 students of Economics have
attended the seminar.
