HMV conducted National Seminar on “Nucleus and its characteristics”

In commitment to enhance academic upliftment of students, “Chandrayaan Vipnet Club” Department of Physics has organized one day National Seminar on “Nucleus and its characteristics”. Dr.Arun Bharti working as professor in the Department of Physics and electronics, University of Jammu was invited as a keynote speaker for the seminar. Dr. Bharti has expertise in the field of nuclear structure Physics. Madam Principal Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen welcomed the resource person and also congratulated the department for organising the seminar.
Dr. Bharti explained the joy of doing basic research and how it has changed our lives. He also explained the important steps for conducting the research. He said our life as a human on the planet earth is a privilege and laws of Physics make life easier. Prof Bharti explained that elementary particle or fundamental particle is a subatomic particle with no sub structure, thus not composed of other particles. He also explained different fundamental interactions in nature, which produce significant long-range forces like gravitational and electromagnetic interactions, whose effects can be seen directly in everyday life, and the strong and weak interactions which produce forces at subatomic distances and govern nuclear interactions.
He explained the Big Bang theory, which is the leading explanation about how the universe began. After that he told the students the Higgs boson is an elementary particle in the Standard Model of Particle Physics, produced by the quantum excitation of the Higgs field. It is named after physicist Peter Higgs, who in 1964, along with five other scientists, proposed the Higgs mechanism to explain why particles have mass. He also explained why Higgs Boson is also called GOD Particle.
The seminar was very informative and about 80 students of B.Sc Sem-V and M.Sc Sem I were benefitted by his lecture. Head of Physics Department Mrs. Saloni Sharma and other faculty members were also present.
