National Science Day celebrated at HMV



The C.V. Raman Science Society of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated  “National Science Day” under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen. On this occasion interactive session on the topic “Science Society & Culture” was organized. The resource person for the session was Dr. Pamita Awasthi, Head of Chemical Engineering Department from NIT Hoshiarpur.
Principal Prof. Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen appreciated the efforts of department and also encouraged students to work in the field of science. Dr. Pamita Awasthi emphasized that more women should come forward and play a role in the development of society. According to United Nation Commission on status of women, only 30% women are involved in Science Research all over the world, while in India according to survey Higher Education Agency in 2016-17 only 14% Indian women are involved in Science Research. Women contribution is very low at institutes of high scientific repute like in INSA, its 5% and at ISRO it is only 8%.
To mark the celebration, various competitions were also organised in which students from B.Sc. & M.Sc. classes of Science participated enthusiastically. In Poster & Slogan presentation, Reena of B.Sc.-III Medical got 1st prize in Poster making, while maninder of B.Sc.-III (Non Medical) got first prize in slogan writing. In fireless cooking competition, Komal Julie & Karishma B.Sc. III (Comp.Sci.) got first prize.
In Quiz competition, team comprising of Khushi Sharma, Simranjit Kaur & Komal Kumari of B.Sc. (IInd Year, Medical) got first prize, Prerna of B.Sc. I (med) got 1st prize in Fancy Dress Competition. Minalini & Manvi of B.Sc. (Med – IIIrd Year) won debate competition on the topic “Women of India actively participate in Science & Technology. The event was organized by Jaspreet Kaur, Sec. C.V. Raman Society, Nivedita Mahajan, Joint Sec., Ashin (Asst. Sec.).

Dr. Seema Marwaha (HOD Zoology & Dean Hospitality) acted as judge for fireless cooking, Dr. Jatinder (HOD Biotech dept.) acted as judge for Poster/Slogan competition. Mrs. Deepshikha acted as judge for Scientific Rangoli, Quiz was conducted by Ms. Simmi & Ms. Harpreet Kaur judged the debate competition. Mrs. Saloni Sharma (HOD Physics) acted as judge for Fancy Dress Competition. On this occasion Dr. Ekta Khosla, Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Dr. Shaveta, Dr. Nitika, Dr. Harpreet Singh, Mrs. Asha Gupta, Mr. Sumit Sharma, Mr. Sushil Kumar, Dr. Suchi, Dr. Deepshikha were also present. The stage was conducted by Ms. Vertika.
