Physicists are a curious
and ambitious lot. Their aim is to understand and govern all physical aspects
of the universe. Recognizing the importance of physics in contemporary life and
the need to keep young learners abreast of rapid technological advancement, Physics
Deptt of HMV College organised Phy-Expo 2020 in collaboration with IAPT-RC-2
under the visionary guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. The
initiative was taken to provide a platform to the students to showcase their
passion for science through innovative techniques. The event commenced with
ceremonial lighting of lamp and recital of DAV anthem. The Principal Prof. Dr.
(Mrs.) Ajay Sareen accorded green welcome to the esteemed guests of the event
Dr. Major Singh, President of IAPT-RC, Sh. Jaswinder Singh, National Awardee
and Executive member of IAPT. Mrs. Meenakshi Syal, Convener of the event
briefed about the events in Phy-Expo-2020 and she also enlighted students that
the motive behind conducing the competition was to instill passion for science
among students. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen inspired students saying
that they should realize that science is not only the most existing and rewarding
human enterprise but it is the most important vehicle of national development.
Honourable guest Dr. Major Singh, motivated students to come up with innovative
experiments and ideas and have scientific temperament and make creative use of
physics laws and concepts. On this occasion Dr. Jaswinder Singh gave an insight
on basic concepts of science and mathematics with the help of his laboratory on
wheels. It was an interactive session with active involvement of students and
teachers. Around 235 students from the districts of Jalandhar, Patiala,
Ludhiana, Nawanshehar, Gurdaspur and Nakodar participated in the event.
The students participated
in events like Science Examplum-still and working science development on theme
“Science for Sustainable Development” Poster making on the theme “Physics in
daily life, Quiz Competition and Essay Writing competition on Physics and its
importance. The students participated with their full intellectual strength and
had an enriching experience.
The competitions were
judged by distinguished professionals, Mrs. Neha (KRM, DAV College, Nakodar)
Sh. Rakesh Sharma (Sai Dass School, Jalandhar), Sh. Ashish Kumar (Police DAV
School, Jalandhar), Mrs. Sonia Mago (Swami Sant Dass School), Mrs. Komal Saini
(GTB Khalsa Colege, Dasuya), Kezia (KMV College, Jal.). In Quiz Competition (In
School Category, Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar won first prize, Trinity
College bagged second prize and Dayanand Model school won third prize and
Dayanand model school won third prize. In college category, Govt. College of Science
Education & Research, Jagraon won Ist prize, DAV College Jalandhar won
second prize and KMV College Jal. won third prize. In poster making competition
DRV DAV cententary School won first prize, HMV collegiate Sr. Sec. School won
second prize and Sainik School, Kapurthala won third prize. In college category
Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College for women Dasuya bagged first prize, S. Govt.
college of Science Education and Research, Jagraon bagged second prize and HMV
College won third prize. S. Govt. College of Science,Education & Research
also won consolation prize. In Essay Writing Competition (School category),
Sainik School Kapurthala won first prize, Anand Public Sr. Sec. School
Kapurthala won second prize. DRV DAV Centenary Public School, Phillaur also won
second prize and DAV Centenary Collegiate Sr. Sec. School, Phillaur won third
prize. In college category, S. Govt. College of Science Education &
Research, Jagraon won First Position, GTB Dasuya won second and NJHS Kapurthala
won third prize. In model making competition Police DAV Public school, Jal
clutched first prize, DC Model International School won second prize and Sain
Dass A.S. Sr. School won third prize. Students of Dayanand Model School,
Jalandhar won consolation prize. In college category HMV College, Jalandhar won
first position, S. Govt. College of Science Education & Research, Jagraon
won second and KRM DAV College Nakodar won third prize. Vote of thanks was
given by Mrs. Saloni Sharma (Head of Physics Deptt). On this occasion faculty
members of college and collegiate school were also present. The stage was
conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia. The event concluded with the recital national
anthem.
