Hans Raj Mahila Maha
Vidyalaya in collaboration with ASSOCHAM, New Delhi organised a Webinar cum
Panel Discussion on the topic “Role of Guru and Responsibility of Shishya in
the World of Virtual Learning” on the occasion of Teacher’s Day. This webinar
cum panel discussion was organised through online platform in which more than
600 participants including Gurus and Shishyas participated. Principal Prof. Dr.
Mrs. Ajay Sareen welcomed all the panellists. She congratulated all the
panellists and participants on the occasion of teacher’s day. She told that the
foundation of present campus of our 94 year young institute was laid down by
the then President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan whose birth anniversary we celebrate as
Teacher’s day. She said that Guru is a guide, a mentor and a lighthouse of
knowledge. Guru is the one who can make his student know the difference between
right or wrong. If the student knows this difference, then the Guru has done
his/her duty. During the panel discussion, Mrs. Divya Lal, Managing Director,
Fliplearn Education Pvt. Ltd. said that teachers are digital immigrants but the
students are digital natives. They are smarter than teachers in using
technology. She said we have to engage our students in online classrooms.
Because of this pandemic, it has now become a necessity to embrace online
platform and the students should also keep in mind that online classroom is not
a cinema hall. Prof. Nupur Prakash, from
University School of ICT, GGS Indraprasth University, Delhi thanked ASSOCHAM
and HMV for organising this webinar. She said that in last 5-6 months, virtual
teaching-learning has become a compulsion rather than a choice but the teaching
fraternity has embraced this change. She said that Google has enormous
information on every subject but it can
never replace a teacher. Dr. Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General Association of
Indian Universities said that earlier there was Gurukul concept in teaching
where the student has to remain with the teacher all the times. At present,
things are changed. In today’s times, you have to engage the students. Teachers
have to give something extra or different in classroom to the student which is
not available on internet. If the student will get something new, only then
he/she will respect the teacher. The student should also be faithful to the
online teaching and not try to fool the teachers. Prof. Dr. Chavi Bhargava
Sharma, Executive Director and Dean, Faculty of Behavioural and Social
Sciences, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies said
that in present times, the situation has turned upside down. COVID has put us
in a stressful situation. We have two options in stress- fight or flight. We,
as a teacher, have to go for fight option. She said that Google can never
replace a teacher. Mrs. Aruna Katara, President, Hope Foundation and Research
Centre, Pune started with a prayer to the almighty. She said that today the
role of teacher is not just to teach. Teacher now is a facilitator, a life
coach, a trainer, a guide and a friend. In the same way, the responsibilities
of the learners have also increased a lot. The learner has to be inquisitive,
participative in the class. She said that although we are using keyboard now a
days, but nothing can be as good as paper pen. Staying focussed in the class is
an art but it can be developed. She said that we can develop this art by doing
yoga, meditation and exercises regularly. Patience is required from both the
sides. Teacher is not looking for reward, they only seek respect. Dr. Sabeena
Mathayas, Education Specialist, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)
said that we have to use content and technology simultaneously. We, as
teachers, must keep in mind that we are teaching students who are global
digital citizens. She said that in digital world, not only content is to be
delivered but also the relationship is to be developed.
