Awareness Programme on ‘Plastic Free Environment’ by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Team of HMV



 

An awareness Programme on ‘Plastic Free Environment’ was organized by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Team of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar in Village Gillan under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. The UBA team urged the villagers to make the environment eco friendly by making it plastic free. Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Head, PG Department of Botany and member UBA team apprised the people of village about the harmful effects of using the plastic. She explained that besides polluting the environment, it is dangerous for the animals also. When the plastic moves through the food chain, the toxins which are attached with it also move along. The villagers were explained that the change has to brought by them only and each one of them should pledge for not using plastic as a part of their social responsibility. They were explained about the other alternatives instead of using plastic such as using cloth bags. The students of government school, Gillan, actively participated in the programme. They took a pledge that they will not use plastic and will even ask their family members to use other alternatives instead of plastic. Dr. Anjana Bhatia also talked about organic farming and the health benefits associated with it. Dr. Minakshi Duggal Mehta, Incharge Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, expressed gratitude to the village Sarpanch, Mrs. Balwinder Kaur for giving the opportunity to interact with the villagers and requested the children to be the ambassadors for promoting plastic free environment. Mr. Sushil Kumar, member UBA team and Assistant Professor in Physics, and Mr. Vidhu Vohra  also attended the programme. Principal,  Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen appreciated the efforts of UBA team.
