HMV Celebrated International Plastic Free Day

 


 

Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated Plastic Bag Free Day to raise awareness of the harmful effects of Plastic on the environment and aim to eliminate the use of plastic bags. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen said that plastic bag is the one of the leading causes of pollution in the world. Single use plastic bags are causing irreparable damage to the environment. Plastic takes upto 500 years to disintegrate. The plastic bag end up in landfills, oceans and threatens the life of many living organisms inhabiting our ecosystem.

Dr. Sareen said that 3rd July “International Plastic Free Day” came up as a unique opportunity to spread the word that a Plastic Free World is possible. Under the initiative for making our country plastic free, HMV had also installed a Plastic Bottle Crusher Machine in collaboration  with Municipal Corporation , Jalandhar. This cursher would help in recycling plastic waste. It will help in effective waste management. She also added that use of plastic in any form i.e. files, bags etc. is prohibited in college campus. Our planet has undergone a drastic change. It has become essential to eradicate plastic for future generations to breathe in a cleaner environment. Dr. Sareen said that HMV is spreading awareness to stop the use of plastic bag. Our students are also participating in this campaign with full enthusiasm.

College is initiating project in which students and ladies from self help group prepared bags from old clothes are taken in use in place of plastic bags. The institution got appreciation certificate from Punjab Pollution Control Board for the initiatives undertaken for No use to Plastic.
