Under the able guidance of Principal
Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, The Freudian Psychological Society in collaboration with Drishti Technology
Centre for the Physically Challenged of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya,
Jalandhar organised “A Sensitization Drive: A Step Towards Inclusion” The Resource Persons, Mrs. Deepika
Sood, General Secretary, Saksham, Punjab and Mrs. Kavita Vij , Social Activist and Founder,
Saanjh Unique Public School, Jalandhar, were welcomed by Head of PG Department
of Psychology, Dr. Ashmeen Kaur with a planter and painting by the students of
HMV as a token of appreciation. The students of the Department of Music (Vocal)
under the guidance of Dr. Prem Sagar, Head, Department of Music Vocal presented
a performance on “Mera Rang De Basanti Chola” which mesmerised the audience. As
the programme proceeded Dr. Prem Sagar
and Mrs. Deepika Sood talked about the impact and causes of visual impairment,
onset symptoms, factors and various approaches that can help the students work
through effectively in this
condition.Mrs. Sood discussed strategies and the current advanced
technological applications like JAWS and Thorium , that are used to enhance the
learning experience of the students with impairments and in turn increase
educational opportunities. Dr. Prem Sagar mentioned the importance of a good
helper and how the role they play in shaping up the future of the children. Mrs.
Sood also discussed the approach Saksham has is to cater to all needs of the
learner, provide training and learning
material through production of various talking books and an integrated
educational approach as their belief
that “everyone is capable – the way can be different”. Mrs. Kavita Vij
discussed the importance of empathy and emotional sensitivity, altruistic skills in helping the not so
privileged section of society and how it goes parallel with education. She discussed how she has been relentlessly
working with underprivileged children at
Unique Public School and with special
children at Mother’s Care Special School. Children from all stratas of society are provided education and skill
based learning in these schools. During this event Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen
emphasized the need for such Sensitization drives and the importance it holds
in education and stressed on various means to enhance it for the better
learning experience and educational development of the students. The drive was attended by students of various departments
who actively participated throughout the event. The event was anchored by Ms.
Kritagyata, Secretary, Drishti Cell and Ms. Priyanshu, Assistant Secretary,
Drishti cell. On this occasion faculty members, Ms. Harmanjeet Kaur , Ms.
Niharika Mazumdar and Ms. Shruti Bidani were also present. Ms Pragya Sharma
gave the Vote of thanks.
