To explore
and celebrate the power of renewable sources of energy-Akshay Urja Diwas was
organized in HMV Collegiate Sr. Sec. School under the able stewardship of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. The
day commemorates the birthday of former Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi and the
objective of this event is to generate mass awareness and popularization of
need, benefits and uses of renewable energy devices and systems in all spheres
of life. The event was commenced with lighting of the lamp to spread divine
grace. The Green Champion Awardee Dr. Ajay Sareen conveyed her felicitation of
Akshay Urja Diwas to the young learners and motivated them to be considerate
towards environment. She put forth the catchword “Save Energy and Make the
Earth Greeneer” and emphasized to be highly conscious while using energy
resources. She inspires every student to use energy resources prudently by
saying that in HMV alternate energy resources are taken into great
consideration like Solar Generator, Solar Light, Solar Gysers, Rain Water
Harvesting Unit and Recycling Paper Machine are used with the purpose of
reducing wastage of energy resources so that these can be saved for posterity.
She concluded her words by saying that the progress of any nation depends on
the use of energy resources wisely. Mrs. Meenakshi Sayal, School Coordinator congratulated
the students and all faculty members and apprised that wind, earth and water
are the most precious blessings the mankind has and it is our solemn duty
to conserve them and use them with wisdom as they are far better renewable
resources than traditional energy resources that are exhaustible and take
millions of years to replenish. She told the students to always focus on
conserving nature so that we can make our Earth greener and cleaner. The students of Senior Secondary classes participated
with great enthusiasm in different activities. Different sources of energy were
represented creating remarkable models. Students prepared still model as well
as working models. Their eye-catching models like ocean wave power generator,
solar irrigation system, solar cooker, wind power, solar power energy,
hydroelectric power point, DC generator etc. received appreciation. The judgement
was provided by the worthy judges – Dr. Neelam Sharma, Head of Chemistry
Department and Mrs. Saloni Sharma, Head of Physics Department. In Model Making
Competition, Namrata of SSC 2 stood first, Jaishree of SSC2 attained second
position and Alvis of SSC 1 secured third position. Students also did panel
discussion on conserving energy resources and its significance, alternate
sources of energy in which ideas were exchanged boisterously. The overall
coordinators of the event were Ms. Vandana and Ms. Ridhima . The stage was
conducted by Ms. Vandana commendably. All the teaching and non-teaching members
were present in the function.
