Scheme organized Guest Lecture on the topic ‘Evolution’ in the premises of Hans
Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.)
Ajay Sareen. The Resource Person of the day was Dr. Anish Dua, Professor, GNDU
Amritsar. Dr. Anish Dua was welcomed by Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen
and Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean Academics and Head of Zoology Department with a
planter. Dr. Dua explained to the students in a very simplified way the mystery
lying behind the process of evolution i.e. the change in the gene frequency of
the different species on earth. He emphasized on the works of eminent scientists
such as Darwin, Wallace and George Mendel who attempted to explain the
mechanism of evolution through Natural Selection Genetic Drift, Mutation,
Inbreeding etc. He further explained Hardy-Weinberg Law through Population
Genetics and Evolution. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Seema Marwaha. Madam
Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen congratulated and appreciated the efforts of
Zoology Department. Stage was conducted by Dr. Sakshi Verma. Dr. Neelam Sharma,
Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Mrs. Purnima and Ms. Harpreet Kaur were also present. Dr.
Sakshi Verma and Mr. Ravi Kumar, Assistant Professors in Zoology Department
were the conveners. Lab attendant Mr. Sachin assisted in making all
arrangements for the lecture.
