Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, The Freudian Psychological Society of Hans Raj Mahila
Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organised a workshop on Understanding IQ: An
Essential Component for Psychology Students. The Resource Persons Mr. Atul Madaan
and Ms. Sheenu were welcomed by Dr. Ashmeen Kaur, Head of the PG Department of
Psychology with a planter and painting by the students of HMV, as a token of
appreciation. Mr. Madaan talked about the Historical origin and significance of
IQ and it’s evaluation, the concept of Mental age, the formula of calculation
and the Pioneers of the field such Binet, Simon, Weschler and Tolman. He
further discussed the widely used tests and test batteries used in the
assessment of IQ worldwide, the prevalent domains and categorisation of IQ. Ms.
Madaan also discussed the types and factors affecting intelligence with respect
to the nature V/s nurture debate and the theory of Raymond B. Cattell. On this
occasion Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen discussed the importance of development of
IQ and how it influences all other aspects of our personalities and contributes
to our emotional and social development as well. Mr. Madaan and Ms. Sheenu also
discussed the Flynn effect, it’s relevance and the contributions of the theorist James R. Flynn. They also shared
various tools of assessment that is required for the testing and assessment of
IQ. Mr. Madaan also discussed how to include such tests and tools during
counselling sessions. This event was anchored by Ms. Damanpreet of B.A. Sem 5.
Faculty members Ms. Harpreet, Ms. Niharika, Ms. Shruti and Ms. Vanshika were
present. Ms. Niharika gave the vote of thanks.
