Under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. Ajay Sareen, PG Department of Bioinformatics and the Department of Biotechnology under the aegis of ‘DBT Star College Scheme’ organized a guest lecture on “Cancer: A multifaceted disease with novel insights” and a Poster Making competition. The session was started with lamp lighting followed by DAV gaan. The resource person, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Associate Professor & Head of Human Genetics Department, GNDU, Amritsar gave a detailed overview of Cancer, factors leading to cancer, its diagnosis and innovations to treat cancer. A poster making competition was also organized on this occasion in the area of Cancer Biology & Bioinformatics in which students from various science disciplines participated with great enthusiasm. Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean Academics, Mrs. Saloni Sharma, Head of Physics Department, Dr. Jitendra Kumar, Convener and Head of Biotechnology Department, Dr. Harpreet Singh, Head of Bioinformatics Department, Mrs. Purnima, Organizing secretary, Mr. Sumit Sharma and Ms. Taniya extended green welcome to the resource person. Dr. Seema Marwaha gave the formal welcome address while Dr. Harpreet Singh, summarized the concept of the guest lecture to all the participants. Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Head of Botany Department, Mrs. Saloni Sharma, Head of Physics Department and Dr. Sakshi Verma, Assistant Professor in Zoology acted as judges for the poster making competition. Ms. Ishita, Ms. Pavneet and Ms. Tanya of B. Sc. Biotechnology Sem-I won the first prize while Ms. Tania Sethi of M.Sc. Bioinformatics won second prize while Ms. Palak Pahwa of B.Sc. Biotechnology Sem-I won third prize. The consolation prizes were won by Ms. Arushi, B.Sc. Biotechnology Sem-3, Ms. Lavanya B.Sc. Medical with Bioinformatics Sem-I and Ms. Antima of B.Sc. Biotechnology Sem-V. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen honored the guest and congratulated the Departments of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology for organizing such an informative Lecture. Technical assistance was given by Mr. Vidhu Vohra, Mr. Arvind Chandi, Mr. Manoj and Mr. Tirath. Dr. Jitendra Kumar, member organizing committee presented formal vote of thanks to resource person, all the participants, non-teaching staff, technical staff and supportive staff to make this workshop a successful event. Special thanks was extended to the students Ms. Sehaj Saini, Ms. Palak Sharma and Ms. Tania Sethi for their stage conduct and Ms. Khushboo, Ms. Komal Chaudhary and Ms. Mankiran for display of posters and Ms. Lavanya for the beautiful Rangoli. On this occasion Ms. Deepshikha, Dr. Shaveta, Mr. Sushil Kumar, Mrs. Ramandeep Kaur, Dr. Simmi Garg, Dr. Shuchi Sharma, Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Mr. Ravi Kumar, Dr. Vandana and Ms. Tanisha were also present.
