For
increasing understanding and awareness about the importance, role and issues
concerning biodiversity and to connect
students with nature, HMV Collegiate Sr. Sec. School celebrated
International Biodiversity Day under the dynamic guidance of Principal Dr.
(Mrs) Ajay Sareen. Diverse activities
were conducted including poster making, slogan writing, photo with nature, tree
plantation and poem recitation. This
competition was organized in collaboration with Punjab Biodiversity Board,
PSCST and NBA. Students also visited to botanical garden as well as paper
recycling unit of HMV to get thorough understanding of bio- diversity. Principal
Dr. (Mrs) Ajay Sareen in her address emphasized that our world is evolving
without consideration and the result is loss of biodiversity mainly to our rich
flora and fauna. She further said that celebrating International Biodiversity
Day every year affirms our resolve and reflects on our responsibility to
safeguard the precious heritage of bio-resources for future generations on the
earth. She insisted that it is only with a cross-cutting and ambitious approach
that we can build a more ecologically sustainable future. Dr. Seema Marwaha,
Dean Academics and School Coordinator also added to the importance of
biodiversity that only collective human actions can transform current loss by
preserving every scrap of biodiversity. Students created vibrant and eye-
catching posters and wrote catchy slogans to spread awareness regarding
conserving bio- diversity. The poster making and slogan writing competition was
adjudged by Mrs. Anuradha Thakur and Mrs Julie. Riya Badola of SSC 2 Arts,
Ramanjeet Kaur of SSC 2 Arts, Avani of SSC 1 Medical secured first, second and
third positions respectively in poster making competition. Ashmeet Kaur, SSC 2
non medical, Diksha SSC 2 Arts, Riya Badola SSC 2 Arts attained first, second
and third positions respectively in slogan writing competition. The judges for
Poem Recitation and Photography
competition were Mrs Upma and Mrs Renu and the the first prize in Poem
Recitation was won by Nancy of SSC 1 commerce and in photography Sonal of SSC 2
Medical won the first prize, Anubha of SSC 1 Medical won the second
position. And the third position was
grabbed by Avani of SSC 1 Medical. School Co – Coordinator Mrs Arvinder Kaur
congratulated the winners and motivated
all the students that this fact should be realized that only sustainable development can sustain
human life for all of us and for that we need to work together. On this
occasion, all the faculty members of collegiate section were present. The
entire event was conducted by the faculty members of Science Department- Mr
Ravi Kumar, Ms Vandana Sethi, Ms Ridhima, Ms Divya, and Ms Charanjeet Kaur.
