Under
the able guidance of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, Chandrayaan Vipnet Club
of PG Department of Physics celebrated National Space Day under DBT Star
scheme. The theme of National Space Day is “Touching Lives while touching the
moon.” The aim of the celebration was to
aware the students about the various milestones achieved by ISRO and motivate
them to make their career in the space field. Dr. Saloni Sharma, Head of PG
department of Physics, Mr. Sushil, Incharge Chandrayaan Vipnet Club welcomed
Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean Academics, Mrs. Deepshikha, Science Faculty Incharge
and Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Dean Innovation and Research with a planter. Dr. Saloni
Sharma informed the students about the aim of National Space Day celebrations.
Mr. Sushil Kumar apprised the students about the activities of the club. On
this occasion, Space gallery was set up in which various posters were displayed
to educate the students about various functions, missions and projects taken up
by ISRO. Posters showing timeline progress of various launch vehicles being
used in launching of satellites were also exhibited. Students made number of
Models related to Space and Chandrayaan-3.Students also demonstrated projects
showing applications of science and technology for solving problems of society
in day to day life. Along with this, a Quiz competition was also
organized on the theme of “Exploring Solar System.” Students of First, second
and third year of B.Sc Non Med and C.Sc. and participated in the competition.
Ms. Prinita, Ms. Kanchan and Ms. Nikita of B.Sc Sem 1 stood first in the
competition. Students also attended the Online lecture organized by Punjab State
Council of Science and Technology. Dr. T.V Venkateswaran, Eminent Science
Communicator was the resource person of the day. He explained the students
about the history of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and that ISRO
was established on August 15, 1969. He explained the principle behind working
of rockets and step by step development of Launch vehicles. The missions of
ISRO were also discussed beginning from Chandrayaan 1 to Chandrayaan 3. The
lecture was very informative. Around 80 students of Science stream attended the
event. On this occasion, Dr. Simmi Garg, Ms. Harpreet and Ms. Jaskarandeep were
also present. Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen congratulated the department for
successful organization of the event.
