Under the aegis of the DBT Star
College scheme, Government of India, Departments of Biotechnology and
Bioinformatics and Red Cross Society of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya,
Jalandhar in collaboration with Phulkari foundation organised a guest lecture
on “Let’s stop Cervical Cancer: Get
informed, Get Screened and Get Vaccinated”.
Dr. Md. Kausar Nyaz Founder, Aabir Bio Services Foundation, was the
resource person of the event. He explained the basic knowledge about the
cervical cancer and its treatment and vaccines to the students and aware them
regarding the risk factors of this disease. He also told about various services
provided by his foundation for the cervical cancer patients. Mrs. Dipti
Sardana, Head Conquer Cancer Programme made participants aware about various
initiatives taken by the Phulkari foundation in the field of women health and
awareness. Mrs Puja Arora Special Educator and Conquer Cancer Programe
facilitator and other team members from team Phulkari Jalandhar also marked
their presence during the event. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen
congratulated Dr. Nyaz, Mrs. Deepti Sardana and the entire organizing committee
for taking this initiative by collaborating various stakeholders on a single
platform. Mrs. Deepshikha, Faculty Head sciences and Advisor of the Red Cross
society welcomed the speaker and the participants. A poster presentation
competition was also organized on this occasion in which students of various
science streams participated. Ms. Komal from B. Sc. Sem. III Bioinformatics won
first prize, Jayantika from B.Sc. Biotechnology Sem. V got second prize and
Lavanaya from B.Sc. Sem. III Bioinformatics got 3rd Prize, while
Arushi from B.Sc. Sem V Biotechnology and Ridhima from B.Sc. Sem I
Bioinformatics Voc. got consolation prizes. Dr. Jitendra Kumar Head Department
of Biotechnology presented the vote of thanks. Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean
Academics, Dr. Harpreet Singh, Head Department of Bioinformatics, and other
member of the organizing team Mr. Sumit Sharma, Mrs. Purnima, Mrs. Pawan
Kumari, Ms. Pallavi Jain, Mr. Arvind Chandi and other faculty members were also
present in this event.
