A seminar-cum-workshop
on “Isolation and Identification of Nematodes from Soil and Plant Roots” was
organized by PG Department of Zoology under the expert guidance of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla. The
event aimed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical
exposure to important techniques used in nematology and agricultural
research. The resource person for the seminar was Dr. Puja Ohri, Professor, Department
of Zoology, Guru Nanak Dev University. The program began with a green
welcome of the resource person
by Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla and Dr. Seema Marwaha,
Dean Academics and Head of PG Department of Zoology. Dr. Puja Ohri delivered
an informative seminar highlighting the significance of plant parasitic
nematodes in agriculture and their impact on crop productivity. She elaborated
on eco-friendly approaches for the management of nematodes and emphasized the
importance of sustainable agricultural practices. Dr. Ohri also
motivated students to pursue research with dedication and perseverance, sharing
valuable lessons from her own academic journey. Her talk inspired students to
think critically and encouraged them to explore new opportunities in scientific
research. The
seminar was followed by a hands-on training session conducted by research
scholars Ms. Roohi and Mr. Vikram,
working under the supervision of Dr. Ohri in Nematology Lab
at GNDU Amritsar. During the workshop, they demonstrated the techniques
for isolation of nematodes from soil and plant samples. Further,
they explained the procedures involved in nematode extraction, microscopic
observation, and identification. The participants actively engaged in the
practical session and gained first-hand experience in handling and studying
nematode
samples. Principal, Dr. Ekta Khosla congratulated and
encouraged the Department to further organize such informative and
beneficial workshops which equip the participants with essential
skills and develop scientific temperament. Dr Seema Marwaha presented
the vote of thanks. Dr. Sakshi Verma and Mr. Ravi Kumar,
Assistant Professors in PG Department of Zoology, were
the conveners of this event. Faculty members of Science also attended
the seminar. Lab technician, Mr. Sachin assisted in making all
arrangements for the event.
