Hans Raj Mahila Maha
Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, organized a One Day Seminar-cum-Workshop on “Nano
Revolution: Building the Future Atom by Atom” under the able guidance of
Principal Prof. Dr. Ekta Khosla. The event was a collaborative initiative of
the R. Venkatraman Chemical Society, Department of Chemistry, and Chandrayaan
Vipnet Club, Department of Physics. Dr. Sapna Sethi, Associate Professor,
Department of Chemistry, DAV University, Jalandhar, graced the occasion as the
resource person. The event commenced with a warm welcome by Mrs. Deepshikha
(Head, Department of Chemistry), Dr. Saloni Sharma (Head, Department of
Physics), and Dr. Sushil Kumar (Incharge, Chandrayaan Vipnet Club). Dr. Vandna
Thakur introduced the theme and significance of the seminar. Dr. Sethi
delivered an insightful lecture on nanotechnology, explaining measurement
scales from atomic to macro levels and elaborating on 0D, 1D, 2D, and 3D
nanomaterials with examples such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, and fullerenes.
She highlighted the classification of nanoparticles and discussed advanced
materials like graphitic carbon nitride and MXenes. The session also covered
synthesis approaches (top-down and bottom-up), stability issues, and
applications of nanoparticles in areas such as photocatalysis, antibacterial
coatings, sensors, and drug delivery. Around 70 students attended the seminar,
making it an engaging and interactive session. The workshop segment witnessed
the enthusiastic participation of 25 students, where Dr. Sethi and her Ph.D.
scholars demonstrated the synthesis of CuO and ferrite nanoparticles using
co-precipitation and sol-gel methods. Students gained hands-on exposure to
synthesis and characterization techniques. The session concluded with a vote of
thanks by Mrs. Deepshikha, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Sapna Sethi for her
informative and inspiring session. Faculty members including Dr. Simmi, Dr.
Samriti Vaid, Ms. Tanisha, and Ms. Hemlata were also present on the occasion.
