The PG Department of Music of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya
organized a special guest lecture in collaboration with Hindi, Punjabi and
English Department under the able guidance of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla.
The theme of the lecture was “Geet, Ghazal and Nazam : A Comparative Study of
Poetry and Aesthetics”, which introduced students to the deep interconnections
between literature and Music. The keynote speaker of the programme was renowned
scholar and author of several books dedicated to the art of music, Prof.
Arinder Singh. In his lecture, he analysed in detail the structure, emotional
depth, linguistic style and aesthetic aspects of Geet, Ghajal and Nazam.
Through examples, he explained how these three forms, while distinct in their
individuality are interconnected and become even more important through music.
He conveyed the message of loving “Sur” (Melody). The programme was coordinated
under the guidance of Dr. Prem Sagar, headof Music department. The organizing
team included Dr. Navroop, Dr. Mamta, Dr. Jyoti Gogia, Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda
and Dr. Ashmeen, whose contributions were especially noteworthy. The state was
conducted by Dr. Gunjan. On this occasion, Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla said that
such academic programmes play a vital role in the holistic developments of
students. She stated that this integration of music and literature develops
creativity, sensitivity and on aesthetic sense in students. Appreciating the
efforts of organizing team, she encourated the students to actively participate
in such enlightening programmes in future as well. Other faculty members of
Music Department were also present at the programme and extended their support
in making the event successful. In the end, Dr. Prem Sagar expressed heartfelt gratitude
to them.
