Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organized the
cultural monsoon festival 'Tiyan Dhiyan Naal’ in collaboration with heritage
society of college with great zeal and enthusiasm. The event was held under the inspiration and guidance of the
Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla. Mrs. Arunima Sud, a revered member of HMV
family, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Mrs. Rashmi Ghai was
welcomed as the Guest of Honor. Mrs. Rashmi Ghal presented a melodious song
dedicated to the spirit of ‘Tiyan Dhiyan Naal.’ The celebration showcased the
rich cultural heritage of Punjab through traditional songs, music, Giddha and
Bhangra performances. Mrs. Ramanpreet Kaur, a representative of the Ajit Singh
Foundation (NGO), acted as the judge of the event. Ms. Ridham was crowned as
Ms. Tiyan, While, Mrs. Sangeeta Arora and Mrs. Protima Mander were honored as
Mrs. Tiyan. Mrs. Sona, a member of the non-teaching staff, was also appreciated
for her enthusiastic participation. On this occasion, the food stalls of 'kheer
and Pude’ set up by the Departments of Design and Cosmetology emerged as one of
the major attractions of the event, drawing considerable interest and
appreciation from the attendees. The enthusiastic participation of students
made the celebration lively and memorable. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla
congratulated Mrs. Kuljit Kaur, Head of the Department of Punjabi and In-charge
of the event, along with the organizing team comprising Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Dr.
Ashmeen Kaur, Dr. Rama Sharma and Mrs. Savita Mehindru and said that 'Tiyan' is
the regional name of the festival of Teej which is celebrated throughout Punjab
which is dedicated to the onset of the monsoon and focuses on daughters and
sisters. Further, Principal Dr. Khosla told that such cultural celebrations are
symbols of freedom, cultural identity and women's empowerment. Faculty members
from various departments, particularly the Department of Punjabi, were present
during the celebration and contributed to its’ success.
