The Freudian Psychological Society of Hans Raj Mahila Maha
Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, organised a workshop on the occasion of World Suicide
Prevention Day, under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla. The
workshop featured two insightful sessions. Mrs. Sangeeta Bhatia, Headmistress
and HOD of Psychology, MGN Public School Jalandhar conducted a session on
“Speak Up for Life: Prevent Suicide”, highlighting case studies, individual
responsibilities, preventive steps and the importance of creating a culture of
suicide prevention. The virtual session by Dr. Amandeep Singh, Assistant Professor,
Project Director (ICSSR Project) and Suicide Prevention Researcher, Department
of Liberal Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher
Education (MAHE), Bengaluru Campus, Karnataka, focused on “Beyond the Pain:
Understanding Self-Injury and Preventing Suicide.” He sensitised students about
myths, warning signs, stages of suicidal behaviour, psychological distress,
safety protocols, coping strategies and preventive measures. Dr. Ashmeen Kaur,
Head, P.G. Department of Psychology, welcomed the resource persons. Principal
Dr. Khosla appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of
psychological awareness and timely support among students. More than 100
students actively participated in the workshop. Faculty members Ms. Priya, Ms.
Nandita Sharma, Ms. Ishamanpreet Kaur and Mrs. Gurpreet were also present. The
event was anchored by Sahejpreet Kaur and concluded with a vote of thanks
delivered by Dr. Ashmeen Kaur.
