The Fashionista Club of the Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, under the aegis of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla and in collaboration with the R. Venketraman Chemical Society, organized an informative and hands-on workshop on Textile Chemistry for the students of M.Sc. Fashion Designing. The workshop aimed to strengthen students’ practical understanding of textile fibers, their characteristic properties, and their chemical behaviour. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Deepshikha, Associate Professor in Chemistry, in association with Ms. Navneeta, Assistant Professor in Fashion Designing. The students were introduced to a variety of natural and synthetic fibers, including cotton, wool, silk, jute, polyester, and nylon. They were familiarized with the distinguishing characteristics of these fibers and their responses to different chemical reagents. Through practical demonstrations, the students explored the solubility and chemical behavior of various textile fibers when exposed to reagents of different concentrations and strengths. The hands-on activities enabled them to understand the principles of chemical fiber identification and to differentiate between various fibers through appropriate testing methods. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla appreciated the efforts of the Fashionista Club, the R. Venketraman Chemical Society, and the faculty members for organizing the workshop. Principal Dr. Khosla emphasized that such interdisciplinary and experiential learning initiatives play a significant role in developing students’ practical competencies, strengthening their conceptual understanding, and preparing them to meet professional challenges in the fields of Textile Chemistry and Fashion Designing. On this occasion, Dr. Vandana, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, was also present and encouraged the students to actively participate in the practical activities and make the most of the experiential learning opportunity. The students found the session highly enriching and expressed their gratitude to the organizers for providing them with such a valuable opportunity to learn through practical experience.
