A week long Faculty Development Programme on Technological Innovations in Science was inaugurated at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalya. This FDP is sponsored by Deptt. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. Guest of Honour of the occasion was Dr. R.K. Mahajan, Dean, College Development Council, GNDU Amritsar. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen welcomed him. Dr. R.K. Mahajan lighted the ceremonial lamp. Dr. Meena Sharma, Organizing Secretary of FDP welcomed all the guests. She said that with advancement of technology now world is global village, era of interdisciplinary approach in research and academics. She said that this FDP is a small effort to inculcate the culture of open discussions at a common platform.
Furthermore, Convener of FDP Dr. Ekta Khosla told about the seven day schedule of FDP. She told that resource person from IIT Ropar, IISC Kolkata, Punjabi Univ., Panjab University will be present for various sessions. She told that 65 participants are attending this FDP. Principal Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen addressed the participants and said that man is a learner everyday. This week is full of knowledge which is going to be beneficial. She said that the participants will feel richer in wisdom and knowledge after this FDP.
Guest of Honour Prof. R.K. Mahajan said that science students have very bright future in India. The Govt. of India has started many innovative programmes for science students. He inspired the fellow teachers to work hard and find practical ways of teaching.
Vote of thanks was presented by Mrs. Meenakshi Sayal, Dean Academics. On this occasion students of HMV performed a Nukkad Natak (Street Play) written and directed by Dr. Nidhi Kochhar on women empowerment titled Humse Milein in which many social evils faced by women were portrayed. For the performance resource person Dr. Umesh Arya and Principal Dr. Sareen congratulated the students and teachers and also honoured them with a cash prize of Rs.1000/-
The sessions of the FDP were conducted by Dr. Umesh Arya from Computer Science department of Guru Jambeshwar University, Hisar, specialist in communication management and technology who delivered his lecture on avoiding waste of ICT and applications in academics. He explained that people usually think that information provided on internet is overloaded but it actually helps them to streamline their research topics. He told about special softwares and commands to effectively manage the files and information. He also gave tips to power search on google and to use various commands to streamline the information. On this occasion, Head of Physics department Mrs. Renuka Bhatti, Head of Zoology department Mrs. Kiranjit Kaur, Head of Chemistry department Mrs. Jyoti Kaul and other staff members were also present.
