On 8th September, 2016 International Literacy Day was
celebrated by Planning Forum, Department of Economics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha
Vidyalaya. The celebrations were marked
by a poster making competition in which students participated with great
enthusiasm and showcased their talent and zeal for the spread of literacy drive
in the society. The themes related to
knowledge, education, literacy and empowerment were artistically presented on
colourful posters. On this day, the
faculty members of the department of Economics made the students aware about
the latest facts and figures relating to literacy scenario in India and
discussed the far-reaching effects of a literate society on various development
parameters. On this occasion, Principal
Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen highlighted the need for upgrading the levels of quality
education among students in an endeavour to make India a knowledge power. She appreciated the efforts of the department
of Economics in spreading awareness about the significance of a literate
world. The first position was bagged by
Aabha Laochotra and Mansi Laochotra (bracketed). Rupinderpreet kaur won the second
position. Third position was won by
Anupriya and Priyanka Kashyap (bracketed).
Gurkeerat Kaur and Harpeet Kaur got the consolation prizes. Principal Dr. Sareen distributed certificates
and prizes among the winners. The judges
of the competition were Dr. Neeru Bharti, Mrs. Kuljeet and Dr. Seema
Khanna. Mrs. Chandrika, Head Deptt. of
Economics, Miss Shallu Batra, Incharge Planning Forum, Mrs. Jyotika Minhas,
Miss Harmanu and Ms. Shivani were present on the occasion.
