Bioinformatics has become the most innovative and latest
branch of science dealing with collection, storage, retrieval, analysis and
distribution of information related to biomolecules using computer
technology. This field of biological
sciences has applications in personalized medicines, molecular medicines,
preventive medicines, drug development, cancer genomics, forensic analysis,
climate change studies, bio-weapon creation, development of new crop varieties
etc.
Principal
Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen told that HMV offers B.Sc. and M.Sc. in
Bioinformatics. Students of medical and
non-medical stream can join the course.
Students with graduation in Physical Biological, Agricultural,
Veterinary, Fishery Sciences, Horticulture, Pharmacy, Engineering, Technology
are eligible for M.Sc. HMV is the only
college offering M.Sc. Bioinformatics in Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. This course leads to employability in Health Biotechnology
IT, Pharmaceutical, public and private research and academia.
Mr.
Harpreet Singh, Head Deptt. of Bioinformatics told that this field is broad,
encompasses a range of jobs including Data Scientist, Clinical Data Analyst,
Information Scientist, Bioinformatician, Computational biologist, software
developer, programmer etc. Our students
have already been placed in CSIR, DBT, ICMR Labs on major national projects.
Many
students have done research projects in foreign universities in Ireland, Australia
and UK. The department of Biotechnology,
Govt. of India has also started Bioinformatics Industrial Training Programme
for students through which the students are placed in reputed Industries for 6
months on stipend basis paid by DBT.
ਬਾਇਓਇਨਫਰਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਨਵੀਨ ਸ਼ਾਖਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਪਿਊਟਰ ਤਕਨੀਕ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਬਾਯੋਮੋਲੀਕਯੂਲਜ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬਧਿਤ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕਠਾ ਕਰਨਾ, ਸਟੋਰੇਜ, ਪੁਨਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ, ਵਿਸ਼ਲੇਸ਼ਣ ਅਤੇ ਵੰਡਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬਧਿਤ ਹੈ। ਬਾਇਓਲਾਜਿਕਲ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ ਮੈਡੀਸਨ, ਪਰਮਾਣੁ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਮੈਡੀਸਨ, ਨਿਵਾਰਕ ਮੈਡੀਸਨ, ਦਵਾਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ, ਕੈਂਸਰ ਜੀਨੋਕਿਮਸ ਫੋਰੇਂਸਿਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਲੇਸ਼ਣ, ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲਾਓ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਅਨ, ਜੈਵ ਹਥਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਮਾਣ, ਫਸਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਵੀਂ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਆਦਿ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬਧਿਤ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਅਜੇ ਸਰੀਨ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਐਚ.ਐਮ.ਵੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੀ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਐਮ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ ਬਾਇਓਇਨਫਰਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਕੋਰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਡਿਕਲ ਅਤੇ ਨਾੱਨ ਮੈਡਿਕਲ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਗ੍ਰੈਜ਼ੁਏਸ਼ਨ ਫਿਜ਼ਿਕਲ, ਬਾਇਓਲਾਜਿਕਲ, ਏਗ੍ਰੀਕਲਚਰ, ਵੇਟੇਰੀਨੇਰੀ, ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਸ਼ਰੀ ਸਾਇੰਸ, ਹਾੱਟੀਕਲਚਰਲ ਫਾਰਮੇਸੀ, ਇੰਜੀਨਿਯਰਿੰਗ, ਟੇਕਨਾਲਾੱਜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਬਾਇਓਇਨਫਰਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਐਮਐਸਸੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜੀ.ਐਨ.ਡੀ.ਯੂ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬਧਿਤ ਐਚ.ਐਮ.ਵੀ ਇੱਕਲਾ ਕਾਲਜ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਐਮ.ਐਸ.ਸੀ ਬਾਇਓਇਨਫਰਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਕੋਰਸ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਿਹਤ, ਬਾਇਓਟੈਕਨਾਲਾੱਜੀ, ਆਈ.ਟੀ. ਫਾਰਮਾਸਿਯੂਟਿਕਲ, ਪਬਲਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਵੇਟ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਤੇ ਅਕੈਡਮਿਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੋਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਵੱਧ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਬਾਇਓਇਨਫਰਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਹਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਖੇਤਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੋਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਵੀ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਡਾਟਾ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਿਕ, ਕਲੀਨਿਕਲ ਡਾਟਾ ਏਨਾਲਿਸਟ, ਇਨਫਰਮੇਸ਼ਨ ਸਾਇਟਿਸਟ, ਬਾਇਓਇਨਫਾਰਮੈਟਿਸ਼ਿਯਨ, ਕੰਪਯੂਟੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਬਾਯੋਲਾੱਜਿਸਕ, ਸਾਫਟਵੇਅਰ ਡਿਵੇਲਪਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋਗ੍ਰਾਮਰ ਆਦਿ। ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਲੇਸਮੈਂਟ ਮਿਲ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਸੀ.ਐਸ.ਆਈ.ਆਰ, ਡੀਬੀਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਈਸੀਐਮਆਰ ਲੈਬਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਰਜ਼ਸ਼ੀਲ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਜ਼ੈਕਟ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਰਲੈਂਡ, ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਦੀਆਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ। ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਬਾਇਓਟੈਕਨਾਲਾੱਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਬਾਇਓਇਨਫਰਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਇੰਡਸਟ੍ਰੀਯਲ ਟ੍ਰੇਨਿੰਗ ਪੋ੍ਰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ 6 ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਨਾਮਵਰ ਇੰਡਸਟ੍ਰੀਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਟਾਇਪੈਂਡ ਬੇਸਿਸ ਤੇ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਜ਼ੈਕਟ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਰਲੈਂਡ, ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਦੀਆਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ। ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਬਾਇਓਟੈਕਨਾਲਾੱਜੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਬਾਇਓਇਨਫਰਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਇੰਡਸਟ੍ਰੀਯਲ ਟ੍ਰੇਨਿੰਗ ਪੋ੍ਰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ 6 ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਨਾਮਵਰ ਇੰਡਸਟ੍ਰੀਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਟਾਇਪੈਂਡ ਬੇਸਿਸ ਤੇ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
