International webinar on “Role of science and technology to combat covid-19” held at HMV

 

The PG department of Chemistry and Physics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, jointly organized an INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR on “Role of science and technology to combat covid-19” under the aegis of C.V Raman Science Society. Dr. Poonam Sharma, formulation Chemist, Reco-Chem Nisku, Alberta, Canada was the keynote speaker. Her talk was focused on different R&D Projects initiated by scientists focusing five major clinical treatments, drug screening, vaccine development, test methods and formulation of cleanliness and safety products for society. As a formulation chemist she gave an overview of hand sanitizers, hard surface cleaners and disinfectants and testing protocols to make the products effective to combat COVID-19. Dr. Venus Singh Mithu, from Department of Chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar spoke on NMR Spectroscopy in Structural Biology: From Molecules to Viruses. In his talk he discussed principle and application of NMR spectroscopy in the field of structural biology and how this technique is instrumental in studying structures of large Bio-molecules. Dr. Neha Sardana, from Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Ropar spoke on the topic “Role of future technologies and materials to combat COVID-19”.Her speech was focused on the application of Nano technology to discover new devices to combat SARSCOV-2 and COVID -19.

She also discussed the devices made by their team for testing and preventing COVID-19. The webinar was very informative and beneficial for awakening the society for the fight against COVID-19. Dr. Neelam Sharma, Head of the department of Chemistry thanked all the resource persons, participants and organizers. Mrs. Saloni Sharma, Head of the Department of Physics and Dr. Ekta Khosla, Associate Prof. Department of Chemistry acted as Moderator. Principal Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen congratulated both the departments for successful organization of the webinar. More than 800 candidates were registered for the webinar.
