Team HMV IIC participated in a Virtual Session on Intellectual Property

Constantly on their toes, the vibrant members of HMV IIC are eager to offer maximum participation in the Innovation initiative of MHRD. The team attended a virtual session on “Why IP is important in Academia?” under the sagacious guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and Dr. Anajna Bhatia, In Charge IIC. Dr. Abhay Jere, CIO MoEs Innovation Cell and Dr. Mohit Gambhir, Direction Innovations, MoEs innovation Cell shared their views on the role of Intellectual Property in the academics. They discussed about the best approaches to determine invention and novelty by prior searching and provided guidance in using the electronic patent databases. They presented a unique practical approach for assessing the monetary value of ideas and invention ownership. The session provided practical advice on patent writing, filing, and prosecution, using copyrighted material, protecting material with copyrights, crucial IP legislation, business models, and new trends and changes to pave an easy way to the journey through the IP process. Reinforcing the view, Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen stressed upon the importance of IP for academic members to gain greater awareness and knowledge of the various issues involved with IP resulting from their research and inventions. The line between academics and industry has grown thinner and a large amount of crossover exists due to corporate funding of academic research and collaborations between company and educational institutions. As commercialization has become inseparable from research, there is now an essential need for academics to have a greater understanding of the processes involved. Dr. Anjana Bhatia also motivated the members to keep abreast with the changing situation and keep themselves updated. The session was attended by Dr. Rakhi Mehta, Lt. Sonia Mahindru, Mrs. Alka, Mrs. Lovleen Kaur, Mrs. Navneeta, Dr. Meenakshi Duggal, Mrs. Protima Mander, Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Simmi Garg, Mr. Vidhu Vohra, Mr.Ashish Chadha & Mr. Rishabh Dhir along with the students.
