Girl Child Day by attending
4th International Conference on Recent Advance in Bioenergy Research
(ICRABR) under the guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. Ajay Sareen. A team of
students accompanied by Ms. Harpreet Kaur went to Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE), Kapurthala , (Punjab). The
Conference was supported by PSCST. The conference provided a forum to discuss Bio-energy options and
also the emerging technologies & solutions as well as innovations in waste
to energy. The students
learnt about various exhibits based on research activities in the area of
bio-energy including biodiesel, bioethanol, biomethanation, biohydrogen,
bio-refinery, biomass-derived electrodes for energy generation, biomass
gasification, biomass cookstove, carbonaceous materials etc. There were various
tracks in the conference, which mainly focuses on the Energy, Power and
Environment. Students visited various stalls where they learnt about the
application of Solar Panels for heating water in Solar Water heaters/Geysers,
various start ups in field of bio energy, use of paddy straw in making bio fuel
etc. Students also saw the working model of Bio Gas Plant. They learnt about
the various processes for production of Bio-fuel, use of house waste in
producing Bio Fuel, different models of Cook Stoves developed at NIBE .They
attended Poster and Presentation sessions where they interacted with Post Doc
researchers as well as Research Scientists, to learn from their experience.
Some students also enquired about the various study paths to get into such
research institutes. The visit was very informative and students were motivated
to undertake research as a career and utilize their knowledge for betterment of
Society. Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Head of Botany Department was the coordinator of
event. She said that event was aimed to promote a big message of participation
of women in research. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen motivated the
students to participate in more such visits to have practical experience and
exposure with such research labs. She also congratulated the Faculty of the
department on successfully organizing the trip.
