HMV organized educational trip to Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana


Department of Zoology under DBT Star Scheme organized education trip of students to College of Fisheries and Centre for One Health at GADVASU, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, under the inspiring guidance of Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Mrs. Ajay Sareen. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to fisheries science, aquaculture practices, and interdisciplinary approaches to human, animal, and environmental health. The head of the Zoology Department, Dr. Seema Marwaha, encouraged the students to participate enthusiastically in the visit and gave them instructions on how to write a project report about it. The visit commenced with an introductory session by Dr. S.N. Datta, Associate Professor, about the College of Fisheries, highlighting its contributions to aquaculture, fish breeding, and aquatic resource management. Students observed the breeding and rearing of fish species such as Indian Major carps, Exotic carps, Pangasius, Koi carp etc. Demonstrations of management of ponds, hatchery and breeding ponds as well as stocking of fishes and induced breeding was given to students. The Students gained the deep insights of functioning of Aquaponics, Hydroponics and Integrated fish farming system with Duckery and Poultry. Following the visit to the College of Fisheries, students proceeded to the Centre for One Health, where they were introduced to the concept of integrating human, animal, and environmental health. Dr. Simranpreet Kaur, Associate Professor, explained the transmission of zoonotic diseases and preventive measures along with the importance of safe handling and processing of animal-derived food products. Around 45 students accompanied by Dr. Sakshi Verma and Mr. Ravi Kumar assistant professors, Zoology Department and Mr. Sachin, Supporting staff member visited the two departments and students actively interacted with experts and gain insights into ongoing research and development in the field of fisheries sciences and the significance of the One Health approach.
