The Chandrayaan VIPNET Club of the PG Department of Physics, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Mahavidyalaya, Jalandhar, organized an enchanting Night Sky Watch for all the students of the college. The event aimed to spark curiosity about astronomy and offer students an opportunity to experience the wonders of celestial observation firsthand. The session began with an introductory address by Dr. Saloni Sharma (HOD, PG Department of Physics) who explained the significance of night-sky observation and guided students in identifying visible celestial bodies. A high-powered CELESTRON 8SE telescope, equipped with a 203 mm aperture, 2032 mm focal length, 480x magnification, and 0.57 arc-second resolution, was meticulously installed in the college lawn by Dr. Sushil Kumar (Incharge, Chandrayaan Vipnet Club) to enable precise and insightful celestial observations for the students. Through this powerful instrument, participants were thrilled to witness Saturn’s magnificent rings, the Moon in its Waning Gibbous phase with about 97.3% illumination shone brilliantly and captured everyone’s attention. Students were also thrilled to observe the distant Uranus which was also visible using binoculars. The experience filled the evening with excitement, wonder, and discovery. The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Simmi Garg, ensured smooth co and enthusiastic participation. The event was held under the inspiring leadership and guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla, Principal, whose dynamic vision and constant encouragement have been instrumental in promoting scientific awareness and experiential learning among students. Dr. Khosla graced the occasion with her presence, keenly engaging with students and posing insightful questions. Her inquisitive spirit and interactive approach not only enriched the experience but also motivated students to think critically and deepen their understanding of celestial phenomena. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ekta Khosla, appreciated the efforts of the Chandrayaan Vipnet Club and the Department of Physics for organizing such a meaningful and inspiring activity. She encouraged students to continue exploring scientific phenomena with enthusiasm and curiosity. This was an evening of awe, learning, and shared wonder, leaving students inspired and fascinated by the beauty of the universe.
