seminar on ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at workplace’ organized at HMV Collegiate
School

Collegiate Sr.Sec. School organized a one day seminar on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr.
(Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and support of school coordinator Mrs. Meenakshi Syal by the
Department of Social Security Women and Child Development, Punjab
to promote government scheme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’. Around 250 principals from various schools
attended the workshop. Mrs. Sangeeta

School , Mrs. Neelam Gupta, Retd. Manager Bank of Baroda , Mrs. Shashi
Kataria, Retd. Judge, S. Amarjeet Singh Bhullar, District Programme Officer,
Mr. Surjeet Singh, Local Programme Officer were the resource persons of the
event. The workshop started with the
welcome note by the organizer Mr. Surjeet Singh in which he showed deep concern
over the growing problem of sexual harassment of women not only at workplace
but everywhere in our society. Mrs.
Sangeeta Bhatia, one of the key resource persons, made a detailed power point
presentation on gender, sex and sexual harassment. She also gave some
instances. She told that how girls and
abused by their classmates, male teachers, bus drivers etc. She also said that there is need to sensitize
each and every person in our society.
Dr. Anjana Bhatia, HMV, NSS Programme Officer spoke about declining
sex-ratio. She further commented on
infanticide, dowry death and indifferent opinion of people about female
offspring. She encouraged the thought to
consider daughters as a blessing. Mrs.
Shashi Kataria and Mrs. Neelam Gupta also aware about different laws and acts
against sexual harassment and also told about legal proceedings against such
cases. They suggested women to come
forward to deal with such problems. Mr.
Amarjeet Singh Bhullar told about committees that should be formed in schools
to curb this social evil. He encouraged
all the principals to form committees in their schools.
Mrs. Meenakshi Syal also
suggested measures to deal with such problems.
She further introduced various courses and diplomas to ensure their
financial independence and different life skills taught by HMV for women
empowerment. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.)
Ajay Sareen welcomed all the worthy principals, resource persons and other
members present in the event. In her
address, she recalled the age old values of Indian society where women were
respected and were safe and secure. She
expressed empathy over the present scenario, where we come across heart rending
news of sexual abuse of females. She
further added that there is need to realize our responsibility in this regard
so that we can hope to build a society in which women can get safe and healthy
environment. The programme ended with
National Anthem.
