Google fake news verification workshop held at HMV


Two days workshop on Fake News Detection was conducted by PG department of Mass Communication and Video Production of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen.  The workshop was conducted by a Google certified trainer Ms. Parul Jain.  Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and Head of the department Mrs. Rama Sharma welcomed her by presenting her a planter.  Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen said that in the era of digitalization, it has now become mandatory for us to differentiate between misinformation and disinformation.  Every news is now just a click away and it is necessary to detect fake news.  The motive of this working was to sensitize the students about the tools available to detect fake news.
            Ms. Parul Jain said that fake and misleading news can be prevented on social media with the help of technology and basic principles of journalism.  Many other tools are available on google platform, which can help in curbing this trend.
            She also shared tips on digital security, safety for digital accounts and fact checking.  Interacting with the participants, Parul Jain said ‘Today’s journalists need to work harder than those who spread fake news.  Fake news sharers have no accountability while journalists have to be responsible”.  A practical session was also held in which the students learnt to detect fake images and videos using various tools available on google.
            After this, a brief question answer session was held and the students were briefed about the digital safety.  On this occasion, Mrs. Jyoti Sehgal was also present.
