Inauguration of 2-day International Conference on ELT at HMV




The Two Day International Conference on Rewriting Methodology: Media and Teaching of English in Modern Culture and Society was inaugurated at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya under the vibrancy of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and amongst erudite scholars from Asian countries.  The conference began with the pious lighting of lamp and recital of DAV Anthem.
Principal Prof. Dr. Ajay Sareen accorded green welcome to the chief guest Sh. B. Purushartha, IAS, Commissioner Jalandhar Division, Justice (Retd.) N.K. Sud, Vice President, DAVCMC and Chairman Local Committee, keynote speaker Dr. Deepti Gupta, HOD English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University and Dr. Shravan Kumar National Vice President ELTAI.
Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda, Convener of the conference and Dean Innovations introduced the concept of the conference.  The aim of the conference is to deliberate on the issues and challenges faced in the teaching of English language.  She said that discussions will hopefully provide some solutions to the problems.
Addressing the gathering Dr. Sareen congratulated Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda and Mrs. Mamta for organizing this conference.  She also conveyed the blessings of Padmashree Awardee Dr. Punam Suri, President, DAV College Managing Committee New Delhi for the conference.  On an optimistic note she said that the resolutions of the conference will help to use the language in the modern context and this lead to new developments.
Elaborating on the concept of English Language Teaching the chief guest Sh. B. Purushartha detailed that the methodology needs to be rewritten because language is continuously changing.  There is a constant shift in the interpretation of the signified.  Moreover, the language used by youth in facebook, twitter etc. is widely different and defy all structures and standards.  He urged the distinguished scholars to consider such issues in their discussion and reach some useful conclusions. 
The keynote speaker Dr. Deepti Gupta drew a comparison between the development of English language in India and European countries.  She focussed on the need to have a changed perspective so that the changes are used positively. 
Justice (Retd.) Sh. N.K. Sud conveyed his wishes that language is the most powerful tool of communication and every language has its own importance. 
The guests were honoured by presenting traditional phulkaris, paintings and mementoes.  Dr. Z.N. Patil, Dr. Anita Sharma, Sh. Hemanta Raj, Dr. Srinivas, Sh. Hendiwanto, Dr. Saiwaroon, Dr. Darshana, Ms. Motikala Dewan, Ms. Sarita Dewan,Sh. Sirawich were honoured towards the end.  On this occasion, Mrs. Kranti Wadhwa, Mrs. Ritu Bajaj, Mrs. Lovleen, Sh. Neeraj Aggarwal, Dr. Nidhi Bal, Miss Nandini Budhia, Ms. Rita, Ms. Rashmi Sethi, Mrs. Amita, Ms. Ravinder, Ms. Maneet Bedi alongwith other members of teaching faculty were also present.
