The third day of the seven day Faculty
Development Programme was dedicated to Folk Dance and named as ‘Steps and
Beeps’. Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay
Sareen accorded a green welcome to the resource persons Dr. Sneh Lata Badhwar,
Principal Govt. College Ropar and Mr. Harjot, a renowned Folk artist. Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen welcomed the
resource persons and said that this programme will enable participants to
acquaint themselves with recent developments in visual and performing
arts. The sessions began with the
lighting of lamp and DAV Anthem.
In
the first session Dr. Sneh delivered a stimulating talk on origin of Folk
Dance. She elucidated the traditional
scenario and various folk lores and styles prevalent in India. She discussed about Bhangra, Luddi, Sammi and
other Punjabi dances. In the powerpoint
presentation she highlighted the Rabinder Sangeet of East India, Classical
Instrumental Music and Dances of South India and Bhangra of North India. She also drew a comparison between Indian and
Western dances.
The
practical session was conducted by Mr. Harjot Singh who gave a demonstration of
steps on Dhol. He discussed the
traditional Punjabi instruments used in dance.
He performed practical sessions on Luddi and Bhangra. The participants deemed it as an exhilarating
experience Dr. Pooja Manhas gave a vote of thanks towards the end of the
session. Dr. Ekta Kholsa, Dr. Rakhi
Mehta, Dr. Prem Sagar, Dr. Santosh Khanna and other members of the department
were also present.
