To highlight the importance of literacy, HMV Collegiate Sr.
Sec. School celebrated World Literacy Day and National Grandparents Day under
the gifted guidance of Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Ajay Sareen and kind support of
coordinator Mrs. Meenakshi Syal. The occasion commenced with the lamp lighting
ceremony followed by the recital of DAV Gaan. Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Ajay Sareen
and the school coordinator extended green welcome to Mrs. Prabhjot Kalra, HOD,
Commerce Deptt. from Meritorious School, Jalandhar.
The aim of the event was to sensitize and mobilize students
to elicit their interest in eradicating illiteracy. The students presented the
scintillating skits on illiteracy to awake the masses for removing this social
stigma. They presented thought provoking enactments to create the understanding
and awareness on the importance of literacy among students. Principal Dr.(Mrs.)
Ajay Sareen encouraged students to demonstrate and step forward for their
support and solidarity for literacy and she said that literacy is not an end
but is a means to most other learning and social and economic empowerment.
To connect young generation with their grandparents and to
advocate the irreplaceable value of older adults, students presented Nukkad
Natak, which informed students that grandparents are the foundation of our
community as well as our link to the past. Students were enlightened, that
grandparents make the world a little softer, a little kinder and a little
warmer for us and they should respect their grandparents.
The students participated in choreography, skit and poster
making competitions. Vaishnavi of SSC-2 (Arts) expressed her views on literacy
through self-composed poem. The students of Meritorious School acquainted the
audience with their performance based on literacy fervor especially stressing
upon the impact of social media on modern generation. The guest of the event
Mrs.Prabhjot Kalra inspired students about E-Awareness and enlightened students
to grasp more and more knowledge from the platform given to them. She further
appreciated the remarkable performances given by the students. Team 5 (Students of SSC-2 Arts), Aman, Tanya, Ridhi,
Shubhneet, Kriti, Tarunika, Vidita and Vaishnavi won the skit competition.
