HMV Environment Club celebrates Green Diwali

 

Zoology and Environment Club, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, under the able guidance of Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Mrs. Ajay Sareen, celebrated Green Diwali. Online competitive events such as Decorative Diya, Rangoli, Decorative plant and Greeting card with slogan were organized. Around 100 students of all streams enthusiastically participated in the event. Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, congratulated Environment Club for taking the initiative of celebrating Green Diwali. She further gave the message of pitching for ‘Vocal for Local’ and celebrating a ‘Swadeshi Diwali’. She concluded by saying that this Diwali, we must make an endeavor to bring smiles on everyone’s face. Dr. Seema Marwaha, Head of Zoology Department and coordinator of Environment Club explained about the initiative of celebrating Green Diwali taken by the Environment Club which is the practice of this Club for the past many years. The Club also organizes awareness campaign including celebration of Organic Holi, Eco-friendly Rakhi, minimizing use of plastic and other measures for Environment Conservation and Sustainable Development.

Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Head of Botany Department and co-coordinator of Environment Club emphasized on the use of Diya, gifting handmade cards, boycotting the use of crackers which are the worst enemy of our environment and particularly planting trees. Videos on conservation of environment by celebrating Green Diwali were also shown to students. In decorative diya, Naman Khanna (B.Sc. Med. Sem-V) got 1st prize, Isha Thakur (B.Sc. Biotech) and Komal Sharma (M.Sc. Botany Sem-III) got 2nd prize, Deepanshi Sharma (B.Sc. Biotech Sem-III) and Deepkiran Grover (Bechlor of Design Sem-I) got 3rd prize. In Rangoli making competition, Samya (B.Voc. Web Tech & Multimedia) got 1st prize, Komal (B.Sc. Med. Sem III) got 2nd and Lubna Nasir (B.Sc. Biotech Sem-III) got 3rd prize. In Green plant as Diwali gift competition, Himanshi (B.Sc. Med. Sem-III), Ritika Joshi (BBA Sem-I) and Jasmine Samra (B.Sc. Med. Sem-III) received 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. In Diwali card with slogan, Neha Maqsood (B.Sc. Biotech Sem-III), Priya (B.Sc. Biotech Sem-III) and Janvi (B.Sc. Med. Sem-I) got 1st, 2ndand 3rd prize, respectively. Dr. Sakshi Verma hosted the event and Mr. Ravi Kumar announced the prize winners and showed power point presentation of all the entries. The function was concluded with vote of thanks and wishing all the students a very happy, safe and green Diwali.
