A seven day Faculty Development Programme “Guru Siddhta” on the
theme of Advances in Teaching and learning Pedagogies from 24th June
to 30th June, 2022 is organized under the vibrant guidance of
Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya,
Jalandhar. The 4th and 5th day of FDP witnessed the
presence of Dr. Gaurav Dhuria, Associate Professor, DAVIET, Jalandhar, Dr.
Vandana Bhalla, Asociate Professor in Chemistry, GNDU Amritsar, Dr. Manoj
Kumar, Professor GNDU, Amritsar and Dr. Umesh Arya, Professor from Guru
Jambheshwar University, Hisar. The session began with lighting of the lamp and
recital of DAV Anthem. Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen and members of organizing
committee extended a green welcome to the speakers. Dr. Gaurav Dhuria, a
Mechanical Engineer with an experience of 20 years holds many prestigious memberships. He began by
asking a number of questions provoking the participants to think about the
purpose and challenges of teaching. He focussed upon activity based teaching
and learning to involve the students and enhance their capabilities. He told
about certain Apps like Answer Garden.com, Near Pod App, Hot Potatoes.com used
to encourage inquisitiveness in the students. Dr. Vandana Bhalla from GNDU is
the first woman scientist in India to receive a Thomson Reuters Research
Excellence India Citation Award. She discussed about preparing an effective
research proposal for receiving grants and funds. She emphasized on the
originality of the proposal and benefit of the research to the society. She
detailed on preparing literature review so as the project gets accepted. She
also named the agencies which provided funding for the benefit of participants.
The third Resource Person Dr. Manoj Kumar holds a number of positions at GNDU
and is specialized in Supramolecular Chemistry. He urged the teachers to
motivate students as words of teachers have great influence on young minds. He
pointed out some useful techniques to make the best use of teaching process. He
asked researchers to keep working on their research topics and modify it
according to the current requirements and needs. On the fifth day, Dr. Umesh
Arya from Guru Jambeshwar University, Hisar explained the usage of ICT for academicians.
He began with relaxing the mind and overcoming confirmation bias. He told about
Copernica Desktop Search Software which can be used to search any file and
information stored in the computer within seconds. He also showed some features
to make the searching and browsing on net more effective. He said that in the
present times of information flooding it becomes necessary to keep the
information organized and easily accessible. He told about softwares like
outwitdocs, docfetcher, mindomo.com which can be used for writing and
publishing articles. He also conducted a relaxing meditation session towards
the end. The session proved to be quite informative as well as energizing for
the participants.
